Terms of Service
Welcome to The Quantum Disciple. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and The Quantum Disciple ("we," "us," or "our") governing your use of our website and applications. Please read them carefully.
The short version: This is a free, non-commercial Christian apologetics publication. Use it respectfully, don't attack or abuse it, and understand that our written content stays ours while our software is released free and open under the MIT License. We provide everything "as is," and there are no fees to use it.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the website at quantumdisciple.com or any application we publish that links to these Terms (together, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
The Quantum Disciple publishes Christian apologetics content for modern thinkers: written papers, podcasts, videos, and study resources exploring questions of faith, evidence, reason, science, and Scripture. The Service is provided free of charge and is offered for educational, devotional, and informational purposes.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We are not liable to you or anyone else for doing so.
3. Eligibility
The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.
4. Accounts, Google OAuth, and YouTube API Services
The Service requires no account. There is no sign-up, no login, and nothing on this website for you to authenticate to. You can read every paper, listen to every episode, and use the Study Center without providing us any information.
We do operate one internal, non-public tool that uses Google OAuth: the Tech Unfiltered Publishing Automation, which uploads and schedules episodes of our own podcast to our own YouTube channel. It is not offered to the public and cannot be authorized by anyone other than the channel owner. Its features and the specific OAuth scopes it requests are documented in full on that page.
- That application uses YouTube API Services. Its operation is therefore also governed by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
- Our handling of information received through Google APIs is described in our Privacy Policy and adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Authorization can be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Use of Google's own services is governed by the Google Terms of Service.
If we introduce user accounts in the future, we will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy before doing so.
5. Acceptable Use
We ask that you engage with this material in good faith. You agree that you will not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its servers, or any connected systems or networks.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach or circumvent any security or authentication measure.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by launching denial-of-service attacks or introducing malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service in a way that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure. Well-behaved search engine crawlers are welcome.
- Harvest or collect personal information about other users.
- Misrepresent our content, or reproduce it in a way that materially alters its meaning while attributing it to us.
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, threaten, or defame any person or group.
6. Content and Intellectual Property
6.1 Our content
Except for the software described in Section 7 and any third-party material identified below, all content on the Service — including papers, articles, podcast episodes, videos, artwork, banner images, logos, and the compiled study question banks — is the property of The Quantum Disciple and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
6.2 What you may do
You are welcome to read, download, print, and share our content for personal, educational, devotional, and non-commercial purposes, provided that you keep it in context, do not alter its meaning, and credit The Quantum Disciple with a link back to quantumdisciple.com. Quoting excerpts in sermons, classes, papers, and discussions is expressly encouraged.
6.3 What requires permission
Republishing our content in full, using it commercially, or incorporating it into a paid product requires our prior written permission. Contact us and we will usually say yes.
6.4 Scripture and third-party material
Scripture quotations, third-party images, embedded videos, and other referenced works remain the property of their respective copyright holders and are used under the terms applicable to each.
7. Software License (MIT)
The Quantum Disciple is not a commercial product and we do not sell it. The software and source code that power the Service — including the site's HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the source code of our applications — are released free and open under the MIT License reproduced below.
The MIT License below applies to software and source code only. It does not grant rights to the written papers, podcast and video recordings, artwork, banner images, logos, or the name "The Quantum Disciple," all of which remain governed by Section 6.
8. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service embeds and links to third-party services, including YouTube players, a social media feed powered by Elfsight, podcast platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeartRadio, and the Givebutter donation widget. We do not control these services and are not responsible for their content, availability, terms, or privacy practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms. Links to third-party sites are not an endorsement of everything found there.
9. Donations
Donations are entirely voluntary and are processed by Givebutter, not by us; we never receive or store your payment card details. Donations support the ongoing production of free content and are not a purchase of goods or services and do not entitle you to any product, service, or benefit. Because donations are gifts, they are generally non-refundable — but if you made a donation in error, contact us and we will do our best to help. We make no representation that donations are tax-deductible. Please consult a qualified tax professional about your particular situation.
10. No Fees, No Sale of Data
The Service is provided free of charge. There is no subscription, paywall, or fee for access. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — see our Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.
We work hard at accuracy and cite our sources, but we make no warranty that all content is complete, current, or free of error. Nothing on the Service constitutes legal, medical, financial, tax, or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for pastoral care, counseling, or professional consultation. Theological content reflects the good-faith convictions and interpretations of its authors; you are encouraged — in the Berean spirit this site is built on — to examine the Scriptures and the evidence for yourself.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE QUANTUM DISCIPLE AND ITS OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100.00) OR THE AMOUNT YOU DONATED TO US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, the above exclusions and limitations apply only to the extent permitted by law, and nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, personal injury, or death caused by negligence.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Quantum Disciple and its operators and contributors from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party.
14. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time simply by not visiting it; because there is no account, there is nothing to delete. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or that doing so is necessary to protect the Service or other users. Sections 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 15, and 17 survive any termination.
15. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the Operator is located, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in that state, and you consent to their jurisdiction and venue. If you are a consumer residing in a jurisdiction whose law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, this clause does not remove that right.
Before filing any claim, we ask that you contact us first. Nearly every dispute can be resolved by a straightforward conversation, and we would much rather have one.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and material changes will be announced more prominently. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, please stop using the Service.
17. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service, and supersede any prior agreements.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions stay in full force.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them in connection with a transfer of the Service.
- No partnership. These Terms do not create any partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between you and us.
